Mama Delilah

what have i done?

my sweet babe, my tiny lamb...

has been shorn.

by his own mother.  this time, there's no pointing the finger for the absent tresses.  the blame is all mine.

mine and walgreens. who enticed with a coupon. with which i bought hair trimming shears.  i have been taking "just the ends off" for awhile now, but today i had planned to do a real trim.  i should have known better.

i am not someone who is good at doing things "just a little bit."  typically, i either work out like a champ or take down chocolate chip cookies like tic tacs.  i either clean like a mad woman, or i ditch all housework and wrestle with Bex amidst strewn toys.

today:  i played delilah to my sweet young samson.  and, turns out, it's my strength that has been sapped.  so hard -- so hard to see him growing up.  it's been coming for awhile now -- the top of his head when i breathe him in has been shifting, almost imperceptibly, from baby magic to earthy little dirt boy.

God, grant me the serenity to accept that my little boy is growing up, the courage to help build him into a man after your heart ...

and the wisdom to put down the scissors.

check out the new B (who, as i type this, is shaking his head across his bare shoulders in tickled delight).
